Friday, July 10th was the last day of informational seminars at the conference. On Saturday, everyone went to the Disney theme parks, and lastly, there was a farewell breakfast on Sunday.
I spent Friday morning in the exhibit hall, visiting booths of the American Diabetes Association, Sanofi-Aventis, LifeScan, and Medtronic. Next, I attended a seminar called "Strike the Spike," presented by Gary Scheiner. This was about preventing high blood sugars immediately after meals - something that plagues all of us and is, in my opinion, the last thing standing between me and a lower HbA1c!
Later, I sat in on "Stress Management for Young Adults," presented by Bob Bulgarelli. This was a quiet, relaxing session; we learned some meditation techniques and were reminded of how important it is to not let stress get the best of you, as it affects diabetes control and overall health.
Later, I went to a seminar called "Pets Get Diabetes, Too," featuring PJ the diabetic dog!
For the evening, young conference attendees put their dancing shoes on... there was a tween social, a teen dance, and a dinner/salsa dancing lesson for the young adults. It was good exercise, and cause some low bgs! Luckily there were ice cream sundae bars nearby (with carbohydrate counts clearly labeled, and offering sugar-free ice cream too) for dessert!
