ASK GINGER -- Managing your prescriptions

Ginger,   I'm starting college this winter, second semester, and I'm gonna have to keep track of all my own prescriptions because I'll be pretty far from my hometown. I'm nervous about running out of supplies or getting them refilled on time. How am I supposed to keep track of everythi...

Guess who ran out of test strips last weekend? Completely totally out of test strips? Me! And I'm surprised this hasn't happened more often because even though I take care of all my diabetes stuff, for some reason all the supplies are stored in a closet of my mom's, so whenever I need stuff I just go in there and grab it. I never notice when things are getting low and so last weekend I just went in to grab more strips and I couldn't find them! My mom was pretty upset, to say the least...luckily she had a very old glucose meter that had never been used, and it came with ten sample strips, so I used that for two days before my strips came in the mail. It was tough to only test ten times in two days, though.

Hey Svati!

If testing two times in ten days is a small amount for you -- then geez, sounds like you're awesome about checking often!

I've definitely had to rely on the random box of sample test strips when I've forgotten to get more in the past!

Do you have any kind of plan for keeping your insulin from running out?

I have a large supply of insulin...probably like six or seven vials in the fridge right now, so whenever I meet with my endocrinologist I am far from running out but he gives me a new Rx anyway and we get it filled then.
