Dear Ginger,I don’t always realize I’m low until I’m down at like 40 or 30, and I try to watch out for the symptoms, but sometimes I get a headache or feel shaky or dizzy, but it seems like every time I’m low feels different. I don’t have the same symptoms every time. Is...
My name is Christina and I am actually not type 1. I have hypoglycemia and it was just diagnosed Oct. 13. I am 15. Dealing with low blood sugar or hypoglycemia is difficult. It affects your brain if you don' take care of it. Before I was diagnosed, I thought that I was just really slow and stupid. It was really weird to find out that there was a cause for my behavior. I have been doing some research for a science project on diabetes and tis is what I have found. Until you recognize symptoms, just routinely do blood tests. It became apparent very quickly that my lows come at about the same time every day. For you, with type 1, it is kind of different. But do not hesitate to test just to be sure. Keep a fast acting "sugar raiser" with you. It is as simple as a piece of hard candy. But be sure to eat something more lasting as soon as you can. I also have friends that recognize symptoms in me or even just poke me as they pass and say "do you need to eat"? Get yourself a support system at school. That is the most important. You will eventually figure out that there is a pattern to your highs and lows. Let me know how it goes. This is so difficult for you guys and I am very lucky that my problems are not as prevalent as yours. Good Luck!
