I want to point out some of the things this interview is clearly missing!
I am also type 1 diabetic and I'm also weightlifting and been wondering alot about this topic! First of all, you are suggesting green vegetables as only source of carbs for a meal. Thats great for non diabetic, but as we know insulin is needed for transport of carbs and Protein to cells, and low carb meals ask for low insulin doses. How well is this high ammount of protein transported to cells??? Not to mention that for athletes doing high intensity workouts high interval cardio this leads to hypoglicaemia in most of cases...
My advice to everyone training with diabetes is: moderate ammounts of carbs, moderate ammounts of proteins, but very intensive workouts with short rest periods and with addition of high intensity interval cardio. This will get you lean, keep you energized, promote your cardiovascular health which is at great risk because of your diabetes and reduce the risk of getting into hypogicaemic state....
Hey bateman,
Absolutely you need good carbs at certain points of the day if you're weightlifting. As I mentioned, oatmeal, sweet potatos, etc. Before you workout and after.
I increase my carb intake as my training intensifies before a meet, for example.
(I just won my very first powerlifting competition, placed Best Overall Lifter and set 7 world records in the APA-WPA for Junior 148lbs and Open 148lbs) See Videos here :)
For the non-weightlifting diabetic, less carbs will help with a large variety of things, as I explained.
Carbs have their place.

Thank you for the helpful links! What a lovely welcome :)
I have so many goals as far as diabetes goes! I want to be in control of it. I don't want to let it take over so much, I've been sick from it too many times :(
I'm very greatful for fellow diabetics like yourself who've taken such a crushing problem and found ways to not only better your own health but to in turn be there with support and information for people you don't even know! It's so encouraging.
Keep up the amazing work, Ginger!
