Hey Ginger, I was diagnosed a year ago. I'm 19, and I've been searching around the site and realizing how much I really don't know! I want to get back into sports, 'cause I kind of stopped for a while...afraid of lows and not really sure how to do my blood sugar at the same time, and then food, an...

    Ginger,

you are amazing. I' was diagnosed with type 1 when i was 5 months old and im now 26, so i've lived with this for a long time. when i was a kid, we didn't have information like this. we were told not to lift weights or exercise too strenuously. Today i'm extremely active in Shotokan Karate, Yoga, Weight Lifting, and Running (after my 1 year old daughter). thanks to people like you and doug burns (my personal hero because of his accomplishments), diabetics can far exceed what we we're told we couldnt do over 20 years ago. I've gone through the ups and downs of diabetes. 2 years ago i was taking almost 100 units of insulin a day. today i take 15 short term and 15 long term all due to eating healthy and exercising and living life the way i want, not what diabetes wants. it isnt the death sentence it used to be. im currently studying to be a dietitian and CDE, so i can give back to other diabetics. thank you to you and everyone like you.

Rich - that is awesome that you've taught yourself so much since your diagnosis! From 100 units to 15 and 15. Man!

    Doug Burns is incredible.

Thanks for the comment, and by all means, if you've got a sharepost in you about all of your exercise and activity, I know everybody would gain from it. Was it an uphill battle at first learning how to balance everything? What did you or do you do now to keep yourself from dropping, etc.?

    I'd love to hear more!
