November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and there's a lot going on throughout the entire diabetes community.
Here are two of the coolest things:
National Diabetic KidZ Day - November 6th, 2009
Diabetes Awareness Kick-off - Artificial Pancreas Project!
For the month of November, we are usually trying to raise awareness of diabetes. Bring it to the attention of people who don't live with it, people who might live it and don't know they do, and bring together the people who do already live with it.
But it's also important to raise your own awareness of your diabetes! How much time do you spend wishing you didn't have diabetes compared to how much time you spend thinking about how you can take better care of your diabetes? Which is a better use of time?
I challenge you, this month (and every month following if you're game), to be a little bit obsessed with your blood sugars. Keep your glucose monitor with you always and count every gram of carb. I challenge you to write a few things down if you don't already. To keep track. To solve the problem mystery highs and sudden lows. To pay really close attention.
I challenge you to...exercise (of course, I'd say that) every other day if you don't already. Check your BG before. Check your BG after. Do a little experiment and figure out what works so you can keep that habit in your life with ease.
While we're working for a cure, we're also working for a healthy body so that when the day comes, we're healthy enough to get that cure and keep moving.
