About Me

Hey Everybody! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I’ve had Type 1 diabetes for 9+ years (diagnosed when I was 13). When I was 14 years old, I was also diagnosed with Celiac disease (an intolerance to gluten, found in most breads, pastas, cookies, etc.) •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I have a twin brother, two older brothers and two older half-sisters. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Very recently, I graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree in Professional Writing. Since then, I’ve been working as an Ashtanga Yoga Instructor (teaching 5 classes a week). I also just barely became a Certified Personal Trainer and now train clients at my gym where I workout. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Exercise and healthy nutrition have become a crucial part of my diabetes care. When I began training rigorously in bodybuilding/weight-training, and following a very clean nutrition plan of low-fat meats, lots of veggies and healthy carbohydrates, my diabetes care become so much more manageable because my body is more efficient, I need less insulin and I treat myself kindly with healthy behavior! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• That being said, I’m not a perfect diabetic. I have highs and lows just like you. Sometimes I know why and sometimes it’s just a weird diabetes thing that I don’t always fully understand. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I am, however, a happy diabetic. Diabetes has added many more positive things to my life than negative. I’ve met awesomely incredible people through having this disease, and I’ve learned so much more about my body and about health than most people without a chronic illness usually have to. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• But diabetes ain’t easy! No matter what you’re blood sugars are, I believe the most important part of living with diabetes is to have a positive attitude, because while it’s hard, it’s not the worst thing that could happen. Diabetes has never kept me from being just as happy as anyone else. In fact, I think some of us know how to have more fun than people who don’t have a chronic illness! It’s all about your attitude. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I’m here to talk about anything and everything: friends, exercise, parents, sex, drugs, alcohol, teachers, weight issues, boyfriends & girlfriends---you name it! Ask me anything. Send me a private message and always feel free to suggest topics you’d like to see discussed on the site. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Welcome to the club! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Check out my blogs from the original HealthCentral Diabetes site at http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/114
