Life with diabetes thus far

By trumpet_boi.47 Wednesday, April 15, 2009

So far, it's been around 3-4 months since I was diagnosed with type 1, and I have been extremely adaptive.  I have only forgotten to take my blood sugar 3 times, and my insulin once.  Even at school it is rarely brought up.  Near the beginning all of my friends were so very interested in what you have to do if you are type 1.  Now, it's just brought up occasionally, like if one of my friends offers me candy at school and I dont take it they will say something like "Oh yeah, diabetical, ha ha." In a sarcastic way, which gets both of us to laugh.  One thing that I have learned is you cant make fun of others if you cant make fun of yourself.  When I think of diabetes and this, I decide to keep the jokes a little on the low side.

Nice post!

I especially like: "...and I have been extremely adaptive."

What do you think you had to adapt THE MOST?

probably getting used to checking blood sugar and doing the shots

After nearly a season of band, 5 months of 3-5 weekly practices and shows almost every weekend, I had already learned to be able to adapt very well.
