Im a 20 year old male bodybuilder and recently started a cycle of prohormones which are basically oral steroids that are legal. when ingested the are converted into steroid hormones by the liver. since i began my cycle about 2 weeks ago i had to increase my lantus dose by 15 units and the amount of humalog i inject for meals has doubled. my weight is 185 and my lantus dose is 50 units at night and i take 1 unit of humalog for every 5 grams of carbohydrates. is there anything i can do to change that ratio so that all i would need is about 1 unit per 20 grams of carbohydrates? and do anabolic steroids affect glucose metabolism?

Hey Alex,
Right off the bat, one thing I can think of is when one takes anabolics such as pro-steroids, their appetite increases. You could be in turn eating more carbohydrates without noticing it thus causing the increase in your blood sugar and your need for more insulin. Additionally, I found this abstract on a study of powerlifters and the results were that those that took oral anabolics had diminished glucose tolerance compared to the nonsteroid- using group, despite having substantially higher postglucose serum insulin concentrations.
