diabetes low blood sugar health science project

By christynina Monday, November 10, 2008

My name is Christina and I have recently been having problems with low blood sugar.  I am still in the diagnostic stage, but I have started with the diet that my Doctor gave me.  Type 2 diabetes runs in my family and even though I now have low blood sugar.  My Dr. thinks that it will eventually turn into Type 2.  I am doing my science fair project on Diabetes, all types.  I want to get into the myth that "all" diabetics are overweight and don't eat healthy.  I am 15, about 5' 4'' tall and weigh under ninety pounds.  My family eats fairly healthy. My mom grewup on a farm and beleives that veggies are the conerstone to any diet.  I usually throw away half of my halloween and Christmas candy, because it is just too much.  I am including friends that do not have diabetes. They are going to eat and test like anyone else.  If you would like to contribute, let me know.  It is due Dec.10.  Thanks!

Hey Christina!

Wow, while I'm very sorry you have diabetes despite being so healthy, I admire how healthy you are and the basis of your project.

I actually know a grown man, about 45 years old, who is thin thin thin and eats very healthy and he was diagnosed with Type 2 when he was forty years old. While I don't know much about different causes for Type 2, it has been suggested to him that despite his excellent health habits, his body simply has trouble producing insulin and processing fuel.

For a much more Type 2-based audience, I'm going to suggest you head over to HealthCentral's other diabetes site.  (This part of HealthCentral is primarily for Type 1 folks!)

Let me know, though, if you have any other questions I could answer for you as a person with Type 1 diabetes.

Good luck on the project!
