I own my body diabetes does NOT!!

By Roxy Tuesday, November 18, 2008

I went to my diabetes doc today, my blood sugars are improving,it has only been a month since my last appointment with her when I was told that my diabetes is(was!) way out of control and in bad condition. I am happy, my A1C will be much better i know when I go back to see her in the new year(JANUARY), I can't wait for even better results!!

I have been keeping a journal, tracking everything I eat, how I feel, blood sugar levels, and my workouts. It has been helping me alot keeping track of everything, I definately see an improvement in my blood sugar, even in my outlook with life and this disease, I guess it"s not as bad as some other health problems that we could have that we don't have any control over, it's taken me a long time to realize that diabetes is not the end of the world, and that it can be controled, it's just up to ourselves to take that control rather than ignore the problem and let it get worse then feel sorry for ourselves because the diabetes is causing our blood sugars to go up, or letting complications set in, can't let diabrtes to take all the blame, we have to take responsibility too, it's in our hands to take control of the diabetes and not let it take control of our lives and health, I will NEVER let diabetes take control of me again, I own this body and my life diabetes does NOT!!

I"ve decided to share my journal on this site, I think looking back on it later or when I fall off the ''diabetes wagon'', it will be good support to see my progress, when I hit a wall I promise my body I will get right back up, dust the sugar off and move on!

It has only been a couple of weeks and I already see a little improvement, just a little, but I will get there, I have to I made a promise to myself and I hate broken promises!!

GUESS I'M NOT A DIABETIC ALIEN AFTER ALL!!

Hey Roxy,

So...pretty much...you're awesome! Not because your blood sugars are improving or because you're going to the gym every day, but because you're stepping back and seeing that diabetes is not WHO you are, it's a part of your life, and it doesn't define anything about your life.

Your pancreas should be making insulin...but it doesn't, so now we improvise, we adapt to the situation and we live our life!

I admire the new goals you've set for yourself! Just remember, even if you slip off the wagon, it doesn't mean you've failed, it doens't you've messed up, it just means diabetes is challenging and sometimes we can handle it all and sometimes it's overwhelming. And that's okay. We just keep trying!
