i was just diagnosed with type 1 almost 2 weeks ago and at first i was super ok with it, but lately it has sunk in that i will have to deal with all this stuff for the rest of my life. it really sucks.
Yeah, diabetes is a huge responsibility. Every day. I'm sorry you're part of the club now, but I have to tell you, I've had diabetes for 11 years now, since I was 13, and it has yet to keep me from enjoying or succeeding in anything I wanted to experience.
The way I see it, is like this: no one gets to live life free of major responsibilities or challenges, right? If most of your friends haven't experienced something similar already, they will at some point in their life encounter something major. Whether it's a chronic illness or something entirely different, everyone's life is full of challenges.
Diabetes is now one of your challenges. And you can spend the next 80 years wishing it wasn't true, but that won't change our reality! We have diabetes! And the best thing about this disease is that WE CAN take care of it and live REALLY REALLY HEALTHFULLY! Some people get diseases that will destroy them no matter what, but with diabetes, we can give our best to learn more about the disease and actually keep our bodies healthy.
