on deaths doorstep, being invited in

By toni Sunday, January 06, 2008

last june i was being sick so i went to the doctor as you do, they didnt test my blood or anything ans just gave me a anti sickness injection and i went home thinking nothing of it. later my twin sister(who doesnt have diabetes) came home from shopping and i was in a lot of pain so she took me back to the doctors and we saw a different doctor who took my blood............ it was high not just like 12-13 high but 32 high. i hate taking injections coz i am slim and dont have much fat to inject into but i had lost more weight and had sod all there now, so i was taken into hospital with diabetic ketoacidosis but one of the worst cases they had seen and was .4 mmol from dying and i had all of the senior regestrars looking after me making sure i didnt die. i hadnt been taking my sugars as often as i ahould or even barely at all and had not been taking the right insulin for about 2-3 months. i dont like the fact that we get fatter quicker than other people so i wanted to stay slim im on a healthy eating plan (the gi) which is helpful and im checking my blood five times a day to reduce my hba1c from 13 to 7   im still trying to get the hang of having diabetes.

Hey Toni,

First of all, I love your hair!

Secondly, thanks for sharing your story! I also have a non-diabetic twin (a brother!). The whole gaining fat while being diabetic thing is extremely annoying, especially when you're first diagnosed--but when you get the hang of things later on down the road, you can work on it--it's not a permanent part of being diabetic--but it is hard! I know!

Anyhoo, welcome to the site! Your hair is making me want to try a new dye on my own! ;)
