OMNIPOD!

By Newbie Saturday, July 18, 2009

The Omnipod is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING (<--- bold that twice and underline it about 50 times). Especially for teens. Especially for me.

Why is it so amazing? -

1- it has no wires. all thats attached to you is that small pod thing.FREEDOM!

2- you can shower with it and whatnot. i never understood how you go to the beach or take a shower with the tubed one.

3- its barely visible. no joke. i dont wear baggy clothes, but my clothes arent so tight that theyre glued to my body. The most that's visible is a little teeny weeny bump, and its barely noticible unless someone is intensely staring at the area you placed it (idk how often people intensely stare at your lower belly/crotch/thigh area, so it shudnt be a problem) and when it comes to the beach and stuff, boys: put it on ur thigh u cant see it under shirts, girls: i wear a short skirty bottom (i forgot what theyre called) and u cant see it

4- THIS IS THE BIGGEST REASON I LOVE IT: when you go out and you end up eating, you press a few buttons and thats it. THATS IT! no thinking about where ur gonna go give urself a shot and all that or if ur gonna go high and feel like shit for the rest of the outing. nobody even has to see the pdm thing, do it on ur lap or under the table and THATS IT! a few buttons, SO SIMPLE.

5- this is a given. no shots. just once every 2.5/3 days it pricks u when u change the pod (doesnt hurt). u can eat and give urself insulin for it, then 2 minutes later u might want something else but didnt cover for it. NO PROBLEM! just press 2 more buttons and its covered, no need to shoot urself AGAIN.

Problems others encountered/i encountered-

i read a lot of reviews on this, but i havent encountered these things. goes to show that everyone has a different experience with them...

1- the pod falls off- i read this to be a major problem, but its not at all. i shower a few times a day with it, swim at the beach with it, sleep with it, yaddayaddayadda, and the adhesive stays on perfectly. i even have trouble peeling it off when i change the pod. just be careful not to accidentally pull the pod off the adhesive when youre dressing or something.

2- the only real problem i have, as mentioned above, is changing pods. its a process, but im not complaining. better to do it once every 3 days than a few times a day right? my problem is pulling that thing off my skin. the adhesive stays on my skin and i have wash it off, and when pulling it off the canulla is still in ur body so when u pull it out be careful. dont twist too much, it hurts and pricks u inside ur body.

3- i guess this is a problem too. when delivering a bolus, it takes a while, especially if its a larger one. i dont wait for it to finish, i move around and whatnot while its delivering, but if ur eating something small im often done before the bolus is finished delivering.

thats about it. i love this thing, made my life so much easier. when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. have diabetes? use the omnipod as your lemonade maker. and the problems...well, things cant be perfect right? this is so much easier than what you had to do before, so dont complain. technology is amazing.
