The ever-so-diligent Chelsea went to go "forage" for food but since it was so late everything had closed. Knowing that we had to get some form of sugar, Chelsea went to the health tent to ask them if they had a spare soda laying around or if they could try to get something sugary.
Well the health tent called security and they told Chelsea to bring them to me. She obliged because they were cops with handcuffs and guns.
In the meantime... I was sitting there. I see Chelsea and then I see the security guy/cop and he ever so lovingly flashed a flashlight in my eyes and asked me what drugs I had been taking that night (keep in mind that during the course of this situation my blood sugar is getting progressively lower) and I told him nothing and I started getting freaked out because I didn't know why the cop was there.
Chelsea was trying to assure me everything was fine and then all of a sudden about five other cops are surrounding me (because obviously I'm an acid dropping reggae-loving hippie), and this did not help matters.
So I started crying, I would not normally cry but by this time I was out of my mind low, so that's when Chelsea steps in again.
One more thing you should know about Chelsea is she's a little shy and not that tall, but that night she walked right in the middle of those tall cops an "explained" to them quite explicitly that they were not helping and if they wanted to help me they could go find me some food before I passed out.
Somehow throughout all the commotion we got an entire free pizza. Pizza probably wasn't the best thing for a low blood sugar but it was enough to keep me from passing out and the rest of my friends were grateful for the free food.
Since then I have made a "concert survival kit" which includes at least $5 in cash and some skittles or other small candy that I put in a plastic bag and can hide discreetly and won't require a purse or backpack. This isn't exclusively for concerts, and I'm sure some of you probably have similar methods that you use for everyday life.
I also keep low blood sugar essentials in my purse, backpack, and coat pocket, basically everything. If you don't already you might want to think about it; low blood sugar doesn't care if you're on a date or watching TV it can happen anytime because there's no such thing as "perfect control" of your blood sugars.
