How much does your diabetes control your life? Or better yet, how much do you let it control you?
Growing up with this burden has shown me how much it can take over your life if you let it. I remember when I was younger my mom usually wouldn't let me go to sleepovers and certain events because of my diabetes. She wasn't it doing it to be mean, she just didn't want things to go wrong and have it affect me in the wrong ways. These types of fun social activities would mess with my body beyond belief. On the rare occasion I would sleep over at a friends house and not get a lot of sleep it would majorly mess with my blood sugars and physical energy for the rest of the week or even loner.
It's already tough enough to handle all the blood sugar checks, doses, etc, but having the burden of not being able to enjoy life like every other kid around you is even worse. It makes a six year old kid grow up so much faster than everyone else their age. Living with these problems from when I was six until now has taught me different ways to organize and plan according to what I will be doing.
It's not an easy job, but it's something we have no choice in doing. Why let diabetes control you when you have all the power to control it??
