i am in high school, and when i have to do my blood sugar, or get my pump out, they are like, what is that, and doesn't it hurt. i don't mind them asking questions, as long as they keep rude comments to themselves, i have got in a huge fight with someone because they said that i "wasn't normal." most people don't care, and my friends are really cautious of me, like in p.e. they always ask to make sure im ok if i sayi don't feel good. and that is what true friends are like. if anyone wants to e-mail me,
my e-mail is rjaluvr@hotmail.com , feel free to email me.

Hey!
It's funny how curious people are sometimes! I love the question, "Doesn't that hurt?" because it's like..."Well..yes...duh..." but most people who don't deal with medical stuff every day are just so impressed by the fact that people like you can poke yourself with sharp stuff every day and not cry about it, you know? They can't help but be curious!
It reminds me of my friend with hemophelia (a disorder where the blood doesn't clot when he gets cut or bruised, he just keeps bleeding). To take care of this, he has to basically give himself a blood transfusion every few days---basically take a needle into a large vein on his arm, take the blood out, mix it with blood-clotting stuff, and put it back in----it's incredible!
And I can't imagine having to give myself an IV blood infusion every three days, so I can't help but ask him, "Geeeez, how do you do that?!"
Meanwhile, the sillier people who say we "aren't normal" are really just taking their time in growing up and maturing. Mostly, they might just be afraid of something they don't know anything about---like diabetes---so they protect themselves by calling us weirdos. At least, that's what I think :)
