Rest Days

By Anna, Health Guide Monday, August 17, 2009

Although exercise itself lowers my blood sugar, I generally take less insulin on the days that I don't work out.  My decreased insulin levels could be because I do not need to take a large correction for post-workout spikes.  However, it is probably more of a direct result of other lifestyle factors.   For example, I often eat fewer carbohydrates on the days that I don't train.

This week, I am tapering for the Pikes Peak Ascent.  Even though I know that it is just as important to keep tight control on their blood sugar during rest as it is during training, I have found my blood sugar to be crazier than usual without some regular exercise.  While my body is resting, my head is in overtime, trying to keep my numbers as low as possible, without actually going low.  However, by closely monitoring my numbers and taking enough insulin, I can be sure that my body has what it needs to properly recover and repair.
