So. Thought I might introduce myself.
Guess it would make sense to start by saying that I've had diabetes for 11 years now, since I was 7. I'd love to lie and say that it gets really simple to treat after so long. But it doesn't. It does, however, get easier. So that's good.
Should also say that I actually live in England, so I got confused reading about blood sugars on here! What's good on your scale? For me between 4 and 8mmol/l is great.
You also have diabetic camps here, right? I loved those when I was younger. I'm still in contact with some of those people. I loved being able to say that my blood was low and for EVERYONE around me to understand what it meant.
So that's me. Well, for the mo anyway. I'm now off to the pub :D

"Off to the pub"...hahah...very funny! :)
So do you use a pump? Or are you going old-school like me, plain old syringes and bottles?
Glad to hear I'm not alone in the "even though I've had this for years, it never gets simple" club!!! But I agree that it gets easier---easier to accept and understand. Easier to not blame myself or feel guilty when it doesn't all turn out right!
By the way, our system uses milligrams per deciliter. So our goal range is 80-120. Low is anything below 80. Etc. Diagnosis "high" is up around 500 and beyond!
Welcome to the site! Post away!
Hey :P
I use neither, just use an insulin pen, you know? With the cartridges? :) I find them ok. My doctors want me to go onto a pump but I'm not too sure how easily I could fit one into my life...
Have you been offered one? I think they'd probably really help with control and everything.. just don't really like the idea of it. I don't THINK they're as popular over here as they are in America.. I recently wore one of those permanent blood-sugar monitors for 3 days.. I found that more difficult than I expected, I kept dropping it when I was getting changed and silly things like that :P
Anyway, will at some point write some amazing post! (or at least kinda decent :) )
Bye xxx
Hey Hollie!
I do know the pen! I used to use them but for whatever reason I like the old school simplicity of the syringe and bottle right now!
And I used to have a pump, too. For four years. I loved it for a really long time and i would suggest to anyone and everyone that they give it a try if they can get their hands on one!
I wrote a post on my experience with the pump for the other HealthCentral diabetes site:
http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/114/5876/pump-pump
I've met a lot of people who are hesitant to try the pump but I've met very few who regretted trying it once they had it! Let me know what you think of the sharepost and if you have more questions!
