Hey guys,
I'm usually over on mydiabetes.com instead, but thought I'd poke around over here since I've gotten quite a few emails lately from teens with type 1 and from parents with children with type 1.
I posted and open letter in response to one mom's email after watching Oprah's show on diabetes a few days ago, which got all the type 1's riled up, myself included. You can find it here: http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/63356/102961/responding-oprah
I'm curious what you guys think of what I wrote, and what your own response might be to your own parental units or those of others. Did you see the show? Please leave a comment over there if the spirit moves you. I'd love to hear your thoughts!
And while the internet didn't exist in my world growing up in the 80's and early 90's, I'm so glad it's here as a resource for all of us now. I sure would've loved HC and the Diabetes OC back then.
Take good care,
:) amylia

Hi Amylia,
Thanks for linking your Oprah post on here! Oh my gosh, what an enormous disaster that show was, right? Your recap was really helpful as I didn't get to see it myself.
It's really frustrating that while there are olympians walking around with Type 1 diabetes (check out Svati's latest post on Olympic Athlete), they only take the time to find the worst-off and most miserable cases of the disease! I have Type 1 diabetes and I've won three powerlifting competitions this year! I'm not miserable!
Now, I wonder how much of this info and blogs like yours will reach Oprah...will they do a redo show? Will they talk about it again and sweep it under the rug and pretend they didn't screw up?
Thanks for posting :)
Ginger
I HOPE they do a re-do show, but frankly, I doubt it. We've done what we can though. I've written several times! C'est la vie!
