When I was twelve I went into a coma and was diagnosed as a type one diabetic. The first diabetic I met was negative and had a bad outlook on his disease, so I vowed to be different. I decided to embrace my diabetes and try to find a way to have it make my life even sweeter.

Almost three years ago, at the age of fifteen, I started to write a book. And on April 16, 2008 I became a published author! I wrote my book through the eyes of a diabetic. I wrote the words that I wish I could have read when I was first diagnosed and laying in my hospital bed. SUGAR FREE ME taps into the emotional aspects of being a type one diabetic and is an inspirational book for diabetic teens and their loved ones. The book has stories and tips from my experiences and I've also interviewed other teens like me, so I could get their points across. It was written from my perspective as a crazy, quirky and positive teenager trying to live a normal life with fragile health.
I'm working on making bigger connections right now with groups like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Medtronic Minimed. I know that these first marketing stages will be tedious and stressful but I welcome this stress on with a smile, because this is my dream. My book is available right now with online sites like barnes&noble, borders, target, and amazon, but I've just launched a site where I'll be selling my own inventory also: www.livetolovediabetes.com
At eighteen I never thought I could say I was an author, but here I am! I'm overjoyed to see what my future will hold.Help me get the word out about my book!

That's so cool! I'm going to order it soon- I'd really like to read it. Ironically, I just posted about another diabetes book that I'm currently reading called Cheating Destiny by James Hirsch. Check it out if you're interested. Anyway, I'm glad to hear about someone who's so positive about their illness. Keep it up! Hope to talk to you sometime soon.
