Diabetes, Diabetes, It's Everywhere!

By Skyler, Health Guide Monday, November 24, 2008

I don't know about all of you, but lately i've noticed that Diabetes seems to be a "hot topic" on t.v. and in the celeb world now. Of course there's Nick Jonas, everywhere you look its jonas brothers this and jonas brothers that, and ohmygosh! he's diabetic ,with that song a little bit longer, all about his experience with being diagnosed. Now also, in an episode of South Park there's Scott Mallenson " Hi I'm scott malenson and i have a lisp and i have diabetes. HEY! don't make fun of diabetes! Lot's of kids have diabetes!" Also the whole Miley Cyrus scandal with hating Diabetes or whatever. (check out what the buck on you tube. there's a segment where he talks about this a lil bit... although i may have just misunderstood the entire thing. but thats besides the point) But it seems like most of the time, when diabetes is mentioned in the media, (mainly in tv shows and such) it is in such a manor that portrays diabetics and diabetes in general in a bad light. but another angle on this can be taken. Is all this publicity on diabetes giving the public more awareness? well the decision is up to the viewer of course, but personally i think it is giving most people the wrong idea. (Although i do find these to be quite hilarious most of the time.) But i am interested in what you a fellow diabetic thinks. what are your opinions on all of this? Okay well.... that's all i got to say about that.

Peace
