Awesome post.

 

I especially like your definition: "Diabetes: only a small sliver of who I am and what i will become."

 

For some reason, many people with diabetes are led to believe that we have no choice but a life filled with complications and suffering! But with an attitude like YOURS, we have every opportunity to be healthy, live happily and enjoy life!

I second that! Also, I like to think that having diabetes has let me define myself as a strong, responsible person who can overcome any challenges life throws! In that respect, it's not so bad to consider diabetes a part of your identity.

Ohhh, good point Svati. Diabetes is really something I'm proud of because I survive with it every day and it's so challenging sometimes. It's like a skill we should list on our resumes: I know how to manage my own bloow sugar!
