Your daughter has only had diabetes for a month? Be patient. It takes time adjusting to such a major disease. I've had diabetes for 9 years and I don't have it down perfectly, because diabetes is always going to require a lot of care, but the main thing is learning how to balance it all without letting it get in the way of being happy, and I think patience is one of the biggest keys to that.

Is daughter having trouble remembering to check her blood sugars or having trouble getting them lower?

If it's the first issue, how about giving her a stopwatch or clock with an alarm you can set to off before every meal to remind her to check? Simply getting in the habit of checking before every meal, before bed and before exercise takes a lot of practice. This is brand new to her. Give her time to adjust and simply accept that this is a major part of her life now, right?

If it's the second problem, help her learn to keep a log of blood sugars in a journal and bring them to her Endocrinologist. They will help her learn how to adjust her insulin levels on her own because throughout her life this amounts will change depending her age, her level of activity, what she's eating, how stressed she is, etc.

In the meantime, I would also simply check out some of the shareposts on here so you can get a good idea of the ups and downs of living with the disease could be for your daughter. Its not an easy disease, but it's not the worst thing in the world and she can do jsut about anything she wants to while living with it.

And of course, keep asking us any questions you might have!!
