It's an excellent idea to make a diabetes supply kit and carry it with you at all times. I actually have three different kits - one I keep in the nurse's office at school, one in my track bag, and one at home that I take everywhere else.
My kit includes:
- a few vials of test strips
- a "backup" glucometer
- an extra lancing device for testing my blood sugar
- batteries for my pump
- cartridges and infusion sets for my pump
- syringes for insulin injections (if the pump malfunctions)
- Glucagon
- glucose gel (or juice boxes, candy) for low bgs
- alcohol swabs
- nursing tape, in case my pump site is falling off
I do not carry insulin with me most of the time, since there is a whole cartridge of it in my pump and I can always go home and get it. If I'm going somewhere over an hour away from home, then I take an extra vial of insulin.
If you don't have a pump, then your kit will obviously need a few different things, such as more syringes or supplies for an insulin pen. Hope this was helpful, anyway!
