Q: I am scared of the insulin pump, but interested in maybe trying it, if i can get over my fear of it.

I have never used the insulin pump, and have not heard much about it from real people my age, only older adults and articles in health magazines, where can i recieve more info, and if anyone can share their experience with it(girls ages 15 and up) i'm kind of scared of the pump, is it like an IV that you stick in your skin, does it hurt, what about infection and can it be pulled out of you accidentally, is it really visible under your clothing, do you have to wear it 24/7, if any girls in my age range and cde's can share some info that would be great, i see my doctor in october, but i'd like to educate myself on this first so i'll be able to ask her more questions and decide if i want to try the pump.

Hey Krystle!

I don't blame you for hesitating! There are a lot of responsibilities that go along with using a pump that you don't encounter with old fashioned syringes or pens.

I'm gonna first lead you in the direction of several blogs our experts have written:

Svati's: Pump Holiday

     and Self-concious about your pump?

Dr. Cogen's:  Insulin Pumps Part I

and Insulin Pumps Part II

Ginger's (Mine Tongue out): Pros and Cons of Pumps

and Insulin Pump Features (that syringes can't do!)

and Pumps and Prom Dresses!

Hopefully, these will give you a good look into life with a pump. Personally, I think everyone should try a pump if they're able to afford one. It will give you a different kind of freedom than you're used to while using syringes or pens. And if you don't like it, you can always go back to "old school." I did, after 4 happy years with my pump, but right now in my life a pump just isn't what I want!

Check out those links and get back to us with any other questions, Krystle! Thanks for posting!

I am a relatively new to pump using but I can tell you that I absolutly love it!  It  does have a cathiter that goes under your skin but you only use it to insert the cathiter.  If you have any other questions, feel free to put a comment on my profile.
