Hi Linda,

"Low" is technically 70 or below. For you, since you still make insulin, to be 80 three hours after a meal isn't really that abnormal. In fact, it's great! If however, you were to start feeling shaky or dizzy shortly after that, you may be dropping low. The average non-diabetics blood sugars run between 70-120. Probably an hour after your meal you would've been somewhere between 100-120.

Does this help? It sonds like you're doing great, especially simply checking your blood sugar often! That is the best way to stay in tune with your body and be aware of what's going on.

Hi! Linda,

I'm lilkathy, and I want to give you some tips that might help to moniotr and smooth out your glucose readings and blood sugar levels, from day to day.

If you try to eat something at least every four hours during the day, and

of course, eat three meals, counting your carb levels, gauging about 35-45

carbs for each major meal, and try to eat at least two snacks per day,

one between breakfast and dinner, and one, after dinner, before going to bed,

for the snacks you would allocate, about 15 carbs maximum for each snack.

You would check the package labels, on meats, vegetable packaging, and

labels for each type of component of your breafast, lunch and dinner, and for each snack.

sounds kind of complicated, but, if you map it out for...

1. grocery shopping

2. meal preparation

3. actually deciding on the size of portions, which you should keep as small, as you

can, and still give a feeling of satisfying your feeling of having a filling, but not

    actually a feeling of over-eating....

Write back,

and I will keep trying to help you,  figure it out so that it works smoothly for you , as you prepare each meal and snack.

how do you feel when it is 80? Shaky, sweaty? I think all people with diabetes are different. I can tell you when I was in the hospital recently for eight days, that when they tested my sugar levels, any number below 80 they brought me in juice and cookies. I get shaky and sweaty when it drops below 70 and really bad when sweating when it drops below 50. keep track of your numbers in a log book and what you ate and when you were 80 to see if there is a pattern. take your log book to your doctor the next time you see him and have him go over your numbers. I hope this helps you!
