Topics:Exercise instead of insulin

Insulin causes me to gain weight like crazy.  Therefore, I want to know if it's possible to exercise in order to omit insulin but keep my sugar levels down. If so, how would I go about doing this? When is the best time to exercise.  Any other tips? Thank you!

Hi Anna,

You CANNOT omit insulin. EVERY mammal, humans pets, etc, need insulin. BEFORE you had diabetes, you were making your own insulin to keep your body alive. Without insulin, we would die.

Exercise will help you REDUCE the amount of insulin you need. Insulin does store some of the food we eat as fat on our bodies, but it also takes that food we eat and transports it to our cells for energy. If you eliminate your insulin, you will get INCREDIBLY sick incredibly fast.

IT IS REALLY NORMAL to gain weight after being diagnosed with diabetes because your insulin needs are all out of whack and at first you'll be getting more than your body needs, and trying to figure out the balance. Don't worry. If you have healthy eating habits to begin with, your weight will go down.

Balancing insulin and exercising is something you'll get better at overtime. I can tell you that I've cut my insulin needs in half over the past two years by training with weights 5 days a week. The more active we are, the more sensitive to insulin we are, so we need less.
