I love my insulin pump but my insulin requirements are over 200u/day. Is there any information on using u500 instead of u100?

Hi Cammie,

Using U500 insulin in your pump instead of U100 is not simple, so you've really gotta educate yourself on the conversion amounts before you do this.

Have you spoken with your endocrinologist? I'm sure your doctor or a Diabetes Educator could help you figure out your dosages precisely.

I did find this chart on the conversion, but I'd highly recommend you go over it with your doctor, too.

The Answer is yes you can. I am Currently using U500 in my Paridine 722 pump from Medtronics. Yes the ratio is alot different since U500 is 5X more concentrated. Please make sure your Doc helps set up your Basel rate and Bolus. Also Since it is so rare for this to be done you must label your pump showing your using U500 insulin.

Hope this helps

I have been using a pump for 15 months now and have the best A1C's I've ever had.  The problem is that at the current settings/dosage  I have to change my resevoir/infusion set every 2 days instead of three.  I am using the largest resevoir I can.  I thought that by switching to U500 I could use my infusion sets longer.  Also, sometimes I reach the max bolus on my pump since I need such a large bolus with my meals.
