I wanted to speak out on an event that happened to me lately. I went to the only Endrocronologist in Lancaster, CA mainly because I wanted to get a perscription for Byetta. To make a long story short, he refused to give me byetta because as he put it "You need insulin. I know what I am doing and I don't want to argue with you." Anyhow, I went back to my primary care physician and told her about what had happened. She told me some other stories about this Endroconologist and then offered to let me try byetta under her care for 3 months using 5mg two times a day. So far, I haven't noticed any big change in my blood sugars, and no change in my weight. It has only been two weeks, but I am hopeful by the 3 month mark, I will see positive changes in both blood sugar levels and weight. I can say this for a fact: I don't eat as much and if I force myself to eat a normal size meal, I get this sick feeling like I really stuffed myself at big thanksgiving turkey dinner. take care

    Hi Elmer,

I was prescribed Byetta too at my request and my endo said ok, but with a caution. My issues with blood sugars are not terrible. My A1C has been running 6.5 to 7 (down from 8.6) but her concern was that I do not always remember to eat when I should. So in taking the Byetta she is assuming I will remember to eat because I have to take the Byetta 20 minutes prior, but there is a possibility I will run low blood sugar as the Byetta works in slowing down the stomach's ability to digest therefore making me pass over the next meal because I will still feel full. Are you finding that the sickness you feel is because you are full or because your sugar level is raised sufficiently high enough to make you feel ill or a possibility that you are reacting to the drug itself? The dr warned me that one of the side effects is nausea.

    Thanks!

    Vicki

Elmer, I have been using Byetta for about a year now and have had a tremendous change in my A1C test results. Hang in there, it really does work. And the weight is dropping off like crazy. It seems like every two or three weeks I am down another dress size.

    Debbie,

Where was your A1C when you started and where are you now? If you don't mind me asking.

    Thanks!
