By Dr. Bill Quick, Health Pro Wednesday, April 30, 2008
I'd like to mention an observation I have had about treating hypoglycemia -- Treating with insulin as well as food! That's against the rules:   The Humalog USPI states: Humalog is contraindicated during episodes of hypoglycemia... Novolog USPI ditto: NovoLog is contraindicated during e...

It seems to me that treating hypoglycemia with 60g of C is just plain bad advice. I can't believe you would advocate doing that. 15g of C, maximum, should be more than adequate. Further, overdosing with C can lead to yo-yoing up and down. Dr. Hirsch at UW Medical School has shown that extremes up and down lead to deterioration of your health.

For the record: I wasn't advocating that anyone use a big bagel (60g of carb) to treat hypoglycemia. Sure, it's way too much carb.

But when you're low, and there are bagels nearby, and your thinking is fuzzy from the hypo, weird things happen.

So be it.

Isn't this just moronic? You shouldn't be eating bagels the first place if you are diabetic!

Get a hold of yourself - you might not need any, or little insulin and would not have hypo if you had any idea how to eat properly!

I hate it when people eat crap and just use meds to do the work. It's a prime example of the lazyness and lack of self control that people these days have - most of the common "diseases" (CVD, diabetes...) are caused by people themselves. Even type 1 diabetes has increased in the past decade a lot, and you can't blame only genetics on that !
