Reading the article, I can relate to many of the concerns from the author. I too live in rural southeastern New Mexico. My Primary Physician is a good Doctor,  his specialty is GP. He did a good job reviewing my blood work, but did not offer helpful information to control my Diabetes. I made the decision to seek out a specialist. It was the best decision I made. Even though it takes me three hours to drive to see my Endo, it is worth the trip.

My Endo provides me essential information, information I appreciate. Taking the time to talk with me about my control, diet and exercise. Reading and talking with me about my blood tests. My office visits usually last about an hour. With my Primary Physician I had to wait for 1 hour ... for a 15 visits.

I evaluate moving to a Specialist because:

- I was not getting treatment information I needed

- I was Not getting a complete breakdown on blood tests.

- I was not getting a good interruption of mt blood tests

At times I felt like I knew or cared more about my Diabetes than my Primary Physician.
