This is NOT experimental surgery. It has been done in the United States for over 30 years. Diabetes may or may not be the worst co-morbidity these patients have but the benefits of losing 50-75% of excess weight will go a long way toward eliminating many if not all of them. Anyone who thinks they are going to have this surgery just to "cure" their diabetes is also in denial about the other disease processes taking a toll on their bodies and stealing years from their lives.
