Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 02:41 PMThe work being done on the proteome through salivaly diagnostics has grown exponentially over the past few years. Researchers are also close to identifying the biomarkers in saliva for a variety of cancer. Dr. David Wong at UCLA has been developing a point-of-care system to take to patients in the field for oral cacner screening. The assay will no doubt be able to one day soon test for daibetes as well. There are alos a number of studies linking periodontal disease and the onset of Type 2 Diabetes. I'd be happy to chat more or contribute some information if you think would be useful.
