Being a decades-long, recently blinded (one eye) T2DM, I was am enrolled in major center diabetes-cardio program. Was advised in Sept '09 that my 2 Grams of metformin daily is fine for BG control and, as well, it is particularly 'cardio-protective', especially in light of my "Lft Ventric Hypertrophy" diagnosis. Was explicitly told to "go ez" on sulfonyls; in my case, no more than I mg per day. My defensive-strategy is a very aggressive [fish oil-turmeric curcumin-gymnema sylvestrae-cinnamon-chromium] "suplementation" added to a "Mendosa-low-carb" regimen (heavily plant-based diet). It's ability thereby enabling me to control my postprandial "insulin rebound" (beyond anything anticipated) which has simply been a boon to my appetite-control. In conjunction w/ the fish oil's ability to likewise control same, I am amazed at my lack of carb-driven hunger pangs, a prior-to major driver in my eating habits (lifelong)!
I also take an aggressive approach using various herbals and supplements. One additional item you might consider is glucomannan. This soluble fiber expands with liquid and will slow down stomach emptying. When taken with a higher carb meal it will help prevent post-prandial spikes by evening out carb absorption, at least that's been mine and other's experience.
Yes - will try, thanx. Also believe that 'cider vinegar' tablets also favorably impact carb gut-metabolism, helping to also minimize 'post-pran' numbers. Have been using them for about 3 yrs. There is some work on this out there.
