Don't you love it when you're doing everything a great diabetic should be doing? You're checking your blood sugars when you wake up in the morning, before bed, and before every meal -- maybe even an hour afterward, too. You're taking your insulin on time and counting all your...

Great essay Ginger! And the thing about falling off the wagon is that when you get back on, you are usually more committed. One of the many challenges of diabetes is all that self-blame, everything is our responsibility, our fault if we eat too much, don't give enough insulin, forget to do a shot or take a day off from exercise, who else is there to blame but ourselves.
That's why I'm a big believer in not beating yourself up when you do fall off the wagon. It happens to us all, just pick yourself up and get back on!

Im glad you posted this. I am currently "off the wagon", as I have just forced myself to put my Ben and Jerry's back into the freezer before I eat the whole container! I have had type 1 for almost 3 years now, it has been by far the biggest challenge of my life. At first I didn't think I needed to read blogs about management, nor did I need support groups... I was wrong, and Its nice to stumble upon your blog. :)

Katie! Welcome to the club of once thinking I could do it all on my own ;) Diabetes is challenging for EVERYONE--I promise. I think the trick is to remember that you don't have to be perfect and to just keep your head up and try your best. Everyone has challenges in life, and diabetes is one of ours!
Thanks for reading, and please keep in touch if you'd like to discuss anything!
