Monday, August 14, 2006 at 03:57 AMThe smartpen would be a godsend. I have a very high functioning 25 yr ol braininjured daughter who has had t! since she was 2. She can carb count and use her (5!) ratios but it takes forever to figur out and it is easy to amke mistakes- even for me. The problem with "overlap" as we call it is a BIG one. IF we try to explain to someone who is helping her- they are lost and I wind up being the 'nurse" on call. I don't know about my daught's ability to handle a pump- she is clumsy and not so carful or obsrvant about her body. But she is sharp She was brain injured several years after she became diabetic and a lot of it is hardwired into her. I wonder tho- how and if they could factor in things like not counting some of the carbs if you are running low or how to reduce for EXERCISE which really affects her. It would be a great start.Sometimes I feel like we are flying blind- even tho I know we are ahead of a lot of the crowd.
