Hi! First of all, don't feel like you're alone in this issue because I've met plenty of people with diabetes who struggle with depression. I think a first step towards helping yourself deal with depression caused by diabetes and is by trying to understand what it is about diabetes that depresses you. Is it the every day pressure of having to take care of something so huge every day? Is it the feeling of "Why did this happen to me?" or "Why do I have this and that person doesn't?" When I find myself bending under the pressure of diabetes, I try to take a deep breath and remind myself that it could be SO MUCH WORSE. Diabetes is HARD--this is undeniable. But man, I'm so glad I don't have humophelia or lukemia or cystic fibrosis. To me, diabetes is like my personal life challenge. We've all got a few things in life keeping us on our toes and for people like you and me, diabetes happens to be one of those things. It challenges us to be stronger and more patient and more dedicated to our health. For some people, they may not struggle with diabetes, but instead are challenged by things like addiction or learning disabilities or paralyzation. Anything. You name it: everyone has something. The trick, though, is to use your challenge as a method of helping yourself grow as a person and using it as a strength, a tool to either improve yourself or perhaps help other people. Are there are support groups in your area for diabetics or people with chronic illnesses? Camps? I've found that being around other people living with diabetes or chronic illnesses is one of the most inspiring, uplifting things. Below are a few other blogs I've written about seeing the uplifting sides of diabetes when it's getting a little rough: http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/114/11183/today/ http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/114/9775/friends-give/ http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/114/8889/thing-diabetes/ Please feel free to write more or contact me personally! You aren't alone in this and I think we all totally understand how hard it can be sometimes. Ginger
