About Me

I'm single now living with my daughter (33 years old) her husband and my grandson because of my health. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 1999, but 3 different specialists have said I have had to have diabetes for at least 20-25 years when I was diagnosed because of having neurophy (nerve damage). I come from a huge family of diabetics. As soon as I was diagnosed I took night classes for a week at Florida Hospital. Since then I have repeatedly gone to diabetic siminars to keep learning. I also met with nutritionists and used the internet to further my knowledge about carbs. I spent $6.00 on a carb counting book, something I recommend to all diabetics. I started out on glucophage then glucocor, starlix, avandia...etc, etc. After a couple years I went to shots, Novolog, Lantus. Nothing I did brought my sugar in control. I am now a pumper, have been for several years and I love it. I have other health problems. I have hypothyroidism, suffer from depression, insomnia, high cholesterol, and neurophy and possible polycythemia. I fell in Sept 08 and broke my shoulder, so had a partial shoulder replacement which has been very painful. On Jan 21st 09, I had angoiplasty because my right subclavian steel artery was 100% blocked. My left one is also 100% blocked but angioplasty wouldn't work, so on March 11th 09, I'll be having a Left carotid subclavian bypass. The other day I went to see a cardiologist referred by my vascular surgeon only to find out they believe I have Takayasus Arteritis, this is a very rare vascular disease. Guess I can't win these days! Ahhhh getting old. lol My entertainment seems to be, going from doctor to doctor, having one test after the other and seeing who is going to put me in the hospital first! lol I was disabled from Social Security in 2004. Only took me 2 1/2 years to get my own money. So, anyone out there that needs help with questions or would just like to chat, email me, I'd be happy to help from my experiences.
