Great article David.

I sometimes experience ketones after I exercise vigorously (basketball).

While it is not cause for alarm, because I know I've been burning my fuel stores, it does cause me to be a little resistant to my insulin. As a type 1 diabetic, I have to manipulate my pump settings a little to counter that resistance.

In my case it is important to know whether I'm "spilling" ketones so I can adjust my insulin. However, the cost of the test strips for the Precision meter is prohibitive for me, so I have to rely on the urine testing. That creates problems because I may not have to urinate for a while after exercising.

A tough situation sometimes.

David, better a late comment than never! As you know ketones interest me! There is a lot we do not really understand about them. Even small quantities of ktones, that is less than 0.6mmol/l, affect how well we react to insulin. I appreciated your thorough article. Thank you!
