Dieting With Diabetes: The Best Sources of Omega-3

By David Mendosa, Health Guide Thursday, March 11, 2010
The best way for us to boost the amount of omega-3 fats in our diet might be to come to New Zealand. This country must have the largest offering of fish in the world. This month I am vacationing on the counry's South Island and have been feasting on all sorts of fish. I know that many people don't l...

"We can skip the intermediate links in the chain and go ourselves directly to the source. Several companies now offer long-chain omega-3 fats in vegan algae."

You failed to mention what companies produce the LCO-c's- or did I just miss them.

Like many I have severe side affects using anykind of fish oil with abdominal problems that take weeks to recover from.  Check out Fish Oils and Side Affects in Google and you get a real education.  Here I thought I was the only one.  I bought the best Salmon oils at $49.00 a bottle to lesser expensive brands and still had the same results.

I would love to try a vegan alternative and see if I still have the same results.

I don't have that information with me. But the product that has both DHA and EPA omega-3 is called V-Pure.

When discussing omeg-3 it should always be pointed out that they shojuld not be recommended for everybody. In persons with congestive heart failure n−3 fatty acids may eliminate enough pumping cells that the heart would no longer be able to pump sufficient blood to live, causing an increased risk of cardiac death.

Although the literature supports CoQ10 more strongly for heart failure, there is also a supporting role for fish oil (DHA, EPA). Not only does the DHA protect the CoQ10 from breaking down as quickly in our bodies, but it appears to provide other benefits specifically for patients with heart failure. J Int Med Res 2009 Nov-Dec; 37(6) 1831-41 reported a study using 2 gm omega-3 daily x 3 months with significantly improved inflammation and a slight improvement in the cardiac function.

Nevertheless, for people with congestive heart failure, the heart is barely pumping blood well enough to keep them alive. In these patients, n−3 fatty acids may eliminate enough of these few pumping cells that the heart would no longer be able to pump sufficient blood to live, causing an increased risk of cardiac death.

I believe that omega 3 is a medical miracle, and especially with today's lifestyle, it is a necessary supplement we should all take.  I am diabetic, and I make sure that I do not miss taking my daily doses
