A New Talking Meter

By David Mendosa, Health Guide Sunday, August 08, 2010
At least 38 companies now offer us meters that we can use to test our blood. I list and link them in my web page “Blood Glucose Meters,” Part 14 of the On-line Diabetes Resources. Almost all of those 38 companies sell their meters in the U.S., and most of them have several different met...

David, I appreciate learning about a meter that caters to an underserved market. I've asked them to send me one so I can put it through its paces.

My father, with macular degeneration, has a problem finding the blood droplet with the test strip. Is anyone working on a solution for this problem?

Wow, David!  This is terrific news!  My vision is getting more limited as life with my diabetes goes on, so this is a major GOD SEND!!  I too, will be contacting BioSense ASAP to request one to try!  The price of the meter and the strips are very reasonable...particularly for those of us who also live with a limited income!

Thank you!

Thats a very good report.  All that technology for the price and the test strips are pretty inexspensive as well.  a good combination!

One of my correspondents, a Certified Diabetes Educator, Ann Williams, Ph.D., R.N., wrote me directly:

"I just read your new review of the Solo V2 meter.  Nice review!

"While at AADE, I learned that there is a third fully accessible talking meter on the market in the U.S. -- the Fora V-10.  I don't have one, so have not played with it yet.  It has the Taidok voice, and a few slightly different features from the others."

I haven't seen yet either. But the company's website for this product is http://www.foracare.com/usa/products-v10.html

Hi David

I am writing this from australia. We found your website very useful. I have 2 children with diabetes in Uruguay (i am originally from there). Both are blind because of the diabetes. This meter will change their lives dramatically. I wrote to the manufacturers to see if we can organise the delivery of the meter and the strips regularly. waiting for a response. Thanks for your great work!!
