Here's how i describe it to patients:

There can be a silver lining in the cloud of being diagnosed with diabetes. Having diabetes can help us focus our attention on what we do day by day. It can help us identify much healthier decision paths that we really should have been following all along!

David, I love your outlook on life.  Upbeat and our attitude is the key in taking control of our diabetes.  Attitude = Altitude  We can fly high or we can fly low.  Its always our choice.  I choose control my diabetes and the diabetes control me.

Check out my video that I made for Daily Strength Diabetes Support Group.

Thank you for that inspirational video. Very well done! By the way, I knew what you meant about controlling your diabetes in your first message. It's not that we never make typos. But sometimes I long for the good old days when we had editors -- but only sometimes.

So aptly put!!  You are truly an inspiration.  When I was diagnosed in Oct of 2006, I didn't wallow for long as I knew it would do no good.  I began to realize that the information that I gathered truly helped me understand my husband's diabetes in a way that I didn't before.  Even though he had been type 1 for 40 years and I was newly diagnosed and was type 2. It has brought new meaning to the word togetherness, we test together, we share results with new understanding and you truly know how each other feels.  So enjoy the lemonade together, as we eat healthier, exercise more and treasure each moment together.

By the way David how is the CGM going??

    Thank you so much.

The CGM is proving very useful. Right now I am gathering evidence, i.e. using it, and will write more soon.

How do you stay so positive? I have uncontrolled diabetes and so many other health complications. I try to do all that the doctors and my family tell me. I do the research. I am so frusterated because I seem to be getting no where? I am 43 and I function like that of a unhealthy aged 70 yr old. I am at a point of giving up. Where do you start? How do you get back that love for life when your taking so many meds and in so much pain. My days are just that of trying to make my self healthy and my days are that of just dealing with my health physically and mentally. I cannot get my family or doctors to listen to me. Most of all hear me! Your site and information is awesome. Thank you.

    Dear Dawn,

I'm sorry that you have so many health complications and uncontrolled diabetes. But you can control it. Your doctors, however, cannot. They can hardly even help you, truth be told.

There are literally only three things that you can do to control your diabetes:

    1. Eat the right foods and lose weight if your BMI is above 25

    2. Exercise a lot. That means at least three or four hours of walking, hiking or such every week plus resistance training.

    3. Taking the right medication for you. For me, the right medicine was certainly Byetta. For others it is metformin or insulin or another medication. If it is insulin, so be it, but it is certainly harder to use.

Good luck and keep in touch. If there is anything I can do to help, I gladly will. You may certainly call me, if you need to. My phone number is (303) 499-5544.

That article you referred me to by Jennifer is one of the best for newbies. I have admired it for a long time. I have a similar article at http://mendosa.com/advice.htm
