Just a thought - could your weight loss and better health also be attritubted to higher vitamin D levels.  This could be a virtuous circle: vitamin D is produced more efficiently at higher altitude.  Outdoor exercise will provide more exposure to sunlight.  Weight loss will make exercise easier.  Lower weight is positively correlated with higher vitaimin D levels.  Indeed low vitmain D levels have been associated with insulin resitance.

Dear Paul,

Very interesting. I didn't know that taking vitamin D helps promote weight loss. I take a LOT of vitamin D -- 9,000 units per day, as I wrote in an earlier article here. But I take it for other reasons. I would be interested in reading any references for a connection between vitamin D and weight loss, if you could send them to me. Thanks.
