I quite agree. A negative group is worse than no group at all. While few groups in my experience are terribly negative, many of them contain uninvolved people. I just can't understand why they even bother to go to the meetings if they care so little for their health.

A physician connected to the University of Minnesota Medical School indicated in a MN Dept. Of Health Diabetes Steering Committee that a study from Kaiser Permanente essentially held the same findings regarding support groups. I am in total agreement with the real value of support groups. My goal is to advocate for peer-run groups where we diabetics share our experience with each other. Most of us learn what works by experimentation and sharing this is very helpful for others. We still need support from Diabetes Educators; however, we need to be the ones who organize and run meetings. Our local CDE professionals need to be invited.
