Hi David, very interesting set of articles. I hadn't known about how the mitochondria couldn't use longer carbon chain fats until I read about it here.

 

You second para under the heading MCT though doesn't make sense to me. You say that protein doesn't give us the energy we need, yet if we eat to much it spikes our blood sugar. Surely protein does give us energy via a process in the liver called gluconeogenesis.

Dear Ian, Yes, some protein can indeed be converted to energy, but slowly and inefficiently. In fact this is a major point of my most recent article here. David
