Tuesday, July 08, 2008 at 08:01 PMI would totally agree, for those so computerly-inclined, FitDay.com is excellent. And as David mentioned, having OTHER people look at your food diary helps too, because others can see what you are eating and keep you accountable. Luckily, FitDay has a public sharing feature so anyone can see your diary, if you choose.

Journaling
LadyMagnolia1963
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 09:04 PMHello Ü,
I am in agreement with you about journaling. I have journaled now for almost 35 years. And for me journaling about my diabetes helps me set my goals better. I write down every day what I eat, drink, I write down everytime I check my Blood sugar, take my meds, write down how much I have lost. I am in need of losing *embarrassing as this is to say* I need to lose 113 lbs :( . But I'm just getting started and I have faith and great hope in myself.
And it helps for accountability! You can lie too others or skip telling others about a meal you hadn't planned on sharing in your daily intake. But you cannot lie to yourself, when it's in black and white and your the writer. So knowing that, it's an accountability for myself. My husband Mark daily in a good way ask how my numbers are, have I stayed true to eating 6 small meals a day, drinking my water etc..
I know that I need to do all this to keep myself healthy. But it sure is nice when you can share your daily diary and that person encourages you.
For the fist 5-6 yrs of being a T2 diabetic I didn't take it serious. I wrote on here "my diabetes journey.
It's been a hard month starting from scratch. I told my sweetie, Mark...it's so easy to eat all the bad foods-so hard to eat the right foods and like them. Then try to figure things out to eat in smaller servings 6 times a day. But I was a pessamist (?). I didn't believe my sugers highs and lows would be better if I ate this way.
I was humbled as I started this because of my hubby-Thank you sweetie Ü. It was actually working! My suger was not spiking or dipping to low. I felt more energetic during the day. It has helped me focus on my goals much more and the depression has all but disappeared whoo-hoo!
I know I am probably chatting to much-but I want to encourage others to read what you wrote and give it a try.
Thank you for letting me share my thoughts with all of you.
HUGS~Donna

Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 08:52 AMDear Donna,
Thank you for sharing your story. Yes, journaling and accountability are two of the best ways we have to help us lose weight.
I have been thinking of the weekly reporting I do on my weight and how it helps me. During this summer the woman who collects our reports and emails them to the group is vacationing, but I look forward to it starting up again in a month or two. If you would like me to request that you be included, please drop me a personal email. That email address is mendosa@mendosa.com
Best regards,
David

food diary tip recyled again
Anne Atwood
Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 01:37 PMHow many times are we gonna see that tip? That's been around since
the fifties. It works for some, but not for all. Granted maybe an
electronic diary will make for more accurate entries..but who has
some new information on this subject worth my time?

FitDay.com is the only way to go for the computer literate. Been using it since being diagnosed as a Type 2. It tracks lowcarb, protein, fat, etc., etc. Then it charts it out for ya. Can't get any better than that.
