The idea of intelligent design might or might not explain the universe. But it certainly applies to Arkray's Glucocard X-Meter and X-Sensors.
Two years ago Arkray of Kyoto, Japan, bought out Hypoguard, which developed the original Glucocard blood glucose meters, and is now Arkray USA in Minneapolis. While the term "Hypoguard" is a great name for a line of blood glucose meters, Arkray means "radiance of life" in Japanese.
The design of the newest Glucocard system is intelligent partly because it's clearly made for you to take with you everywhere. It's light and thin.
The meter itself is less than half an inch thick. It weighs just 1.6 ounces, according to my postal scale.
When I Checked my BG Sunday, I Forgot to Set the Meter's Clock!
When I opened the box the system ships in, my initial reaction was great -- but surely the normal round test strip vial, which is of course an essential part of the system, would be too thick to carry. Yet this vial or bottle also has an intelligent design that is less than three-fourths of an inch thick.
This Sleek Bottle has Clear Bottom to View the Number of Test Strips
This is also an intelligently designed system because it takes so little of our precious blood. Each time we check it takes just 0.3 microliters. No other blood glucose meter system takes less.
It's also one of the fastest testers those of us with diabetes can use. It returns our blood glucose level in just 5 seconds.
Arkray doesn't sell the Glucocard X-Meter and X-Sensors directly, and few brick-and-mortar pharmacies offer it. But it links several on-line pharmacies that carry the system, including Advanced Diabetes Supply in Carlsbad, California. ADS generally offers meters at no cost.
While the user instruction manual that comes with the system says that, "Data management software and download cables are not available in the USA," they are available now, according to the people at Arkray USA. You can order the software (product number 557030) and the cable for this meter (product number 557021) by calling them at 1 (800) 566-8558.
Last but not least, this system is also auto coding. That's also intelligent.
