A1CNow at Home

Today Bayer Diabetes Care launched the A1CNow SELFCHECK that we can use to check our A1C level at home. Finally. Many of us have been waiting for years. In September 2006 I wrote here that we would have it "soon." Then, a year ago at last year's convention of the American Diabetes Association in San F...

Terrific news! Besides the convenience, the cost ($30 for a 2-pak) seems to be quite reasonable. So for $120 in a year, you will have #4 quarterly "reads" with which to judge the significance of your "daily-sugars". Accurate compliance-feedback is what we all need.

If they come in two packs, you can buy 2 of them & get 4 quarterly readings...that would amount to a price of only $60 (not the stated $120).  Even better deal!!

I think the Walmart A1C mail-in kit at $9.00 is the most practical for me. And they will email you a reminder for the next test after 3 months. Instant at-home measurement for a 3-month average does not seem like a big advantage or convenience.

Thank you so much for this information.  I am a diabetic with no health insurance.  I can now afford to check my A1c levels.  I really appreciate recieving this information.

When will we get this in Britain?

Good question! I don't know the answer, but if I were you, I would email the company.

Hooray for an at home A1C test.  This should save much money for the test and blood draw.  Now, will medicare understand that they should cover this and then save money on the test and blood draw?  Probably not.

It would be great if they worked properly. The kits are complicated, finicky, and down right frustrating to use. Even at $30 bucks for 2 tests, they know you're gonna waste one trying, its a big scam.
