I’m almost ready to retract.Sometimes I write or speak too soon. I know that none of you do that, but sometimes my fingers and my tongue work faster than my mind.   I am not talking about the article that I wrote two years ago blasting “The Mangosteen Myth”. Nothing else that I ever wrot...

I recently read an article in some weekend magazine that gave several supplements that were found useful in weight management. Since I'm a runner who'd recently had sinus surgery and would be off the road for a couple of months, I tried the Chromium picolinate as a supplement a day or two after surgery. When the skin above my sinus cavities broke into a rash -- as well as my scalp and the skin below my eyes, I attributed it to a reaction to the surgery. But I also stopped taking the supplements. A few weeks later, I was getting a cold, and decided to follow through with a vitamin/supplement regimen. Since I already had the chromium, I added it. All of the other vitamins I'd taken before. The reaction was quick and severe. In addition to the rawness of skin above my sinuses, the skin beneath my eyes now looks permanently damaged -- it is as purple as if I hadn't slept in three weeks, puffed and wrinkled as if I'd aged like Jean Valjean. I wish I'd known about the potential side effect before I took it -- something that was surprisingly lacking in the article I read considering the seriousness of my reaction. I can only seek now to warn others to look for the signs -- to recoginze that the reaction might be the chromium and to discontinue use if that happens. CM

PLease let  me know what is in your arsenal of supplements, I have been experimenting with supplements instead of as much insulin, I am taking quite a bit of chromium picolinate and am looking for known effects, I would love to hear what works for some one else!  realtorcarli @ hotmail .    com

Interesting that you should mention biotin now. I just bought some on Friday after reading Dr. Bernstein's recommendation to take it with ALA (take 1% of the ALA dose in biotin, he says). I never took biotin before.

    Best regards,
